Siding on a house protects your home from a lot of things, but you have to remember that siding is still a type of plastic, and it will not last forever. In fact, there are some things that will damage your siding and cause it to wear out sooner. Some are natural causes, and some are not so natural. Keep reading to learn more about these issues and how to deal with them.
If you live in a state that gets a lot of intense sunlight, and your home has little relief from shade, the sun will do two things to the siding over time. One, it will bleach the color of the siding out until the color is a paler version of its former self. Two, extreme heat beating on siding all the time eventually causes it to become brittle and crack. If you have begun to notice that little chips in the siding have come off, this is typically due to sun damage. It will continue until you replace the siding entirely.
The bigger the chunks of hail, the bigger the problems with siding damage. If your home is pelted with legendary softball-sized hail, there is a very high chance that your roof and your siding are going to look like someone took a metal bat and swung into your home repeatedly. Roofers can replace the damaged parts of the roof, and a siding company can replace the siding that was affected. A lot of times the hail hits one or two sides of your home, usually on the sides of the house that faced into the direction of the storm. You may only need a few slats on these sides replaced as the rest of the exterior will be fine.
Not So Natural Causes
Cars and Drivers
How many times has a home repair technician backed into your driveway or your teen driver backed out and you held your breath every time, praying they would not hit the side of your house? If you have actually experienced damage to your home's siding as a result of bad driving or car accidents, there is going to be a lot of damage to more than just the siding. You will need to get someone to assess the structural damage of your home before a roofing and siding contractor can replace the damaged siding.
Space junk constitutes pretty much anything that falls out of the sky and hits your house. If a meteor or part of a space shuttle hits your home, that counts. While this is less common, it has been known to happen, and you will still need to replace the affected siding.
